Leadership

President’s Message

by , NWC President

May can be such a beautiful month! A few less rainy days and many more sunny ones can be expected .. or at least hoped for! Just the expectation always cheers me up!

Hopefully, voting has been completed or in the process of being completed, for our new board and charity for next year. We appreciate your participation in these important decisions for the club.

In these uncertain times, the club continues to try very hard to continue to keep prices for our events as reasonable as possible. The realization that the Philanthropy Committee members have donated not only their time and energy but much of the cost of putting parties together is a testament to the generosity that is so strong within our club. Members give what they can, and it is all so appreciated.

Luncheons do create their own set of financial issues that the board discusses on an ongoing basis. We have done an excellent job staying within our budget, but the costs involved have become more and more problematic. Restaurants are becoming even more expensive and finding rooms for a larger group, creates more difficulty. But, we are a resilient bunch and keep working toward quality luncheons with interesting speakers at a cost that is not prohibitive! Let us know if you have been to a restaurant you would like us to investigate for a future luncheon!

We also want to thank Susan Gray for her many years of service to our Club. She has moved to Bend with her family and we all wish her only the very best!

I wish you all happy days, complete with sunshine and clear skies!

Best wishes,

Sandy

Our March Luncheon Food Drive was a big success and thanks to all who brought food or made a cash donation. The total weight of pasta, rice and other goods collected was 172 lbs. We also had financial contributions of $315 which will enable Hunger Fighters to add an additional 133 lbs of food to the pantry shelves!

It is time to select the charity we will sponsor for 2025-2026. The three candidates are: Community Warehouse, Hunger Fighters Oregon, and Neighborhood House. A ballot with the three candidates was sent to all NWC members mid-April. If you haven’t voted yet, please cast your ballot by Monday, May 5. All three charities are great organizations but we can only pick one for the year. You may choose to continue our support to Hunger Fighters for a second year.

Friendship Luncheons

by and

Friendship Luncheon

Newcomers Friendship Luncheons offer the opportunity to develop new and lasting friendships in a quieter setting, perfect for conversation. The format is for six to eight ladies to meet monthly, rotating homes (even co-hosting if space it tight). Each hostess prepares a casual meal for the group, or selects a restaurant at which to meet, with each member paying for her own lunch. Groups set their own meeting day and time. so that everyone can mark their calendars ahead.

These smaller lunch gatherings are ideal for getting to know one another better, and new groups are forming all the time.

Please contact us if you wish to join in the fun!

Single Dining Divas

by

spoon and fork

The Single Dining Divas have two events each month.  Each dinner is hosted by a Diva member in their home. One of the monthly dinners is hosted on the second Tuesday of each month, and the second is designated by the host. That designated host Diva chooses from Brunch, Lunch or Dinner as their preference, as well as the date. All of our Diva members take turns hosting the monthly gatherings in their homes and should be able to accommodate at least 10 people. The host sets the menu and provides the entree; guests bring the side dishes, desserts, and beverages designated by the host.

If you are a single Diva and are interested in joining our fun group for home-hosted potluck meals,  contact Sharon Harvey.
