Canary Islands, December 2025
Our trip was to Madeira and the Canary Islands. All are islands in the Atlantic off the coast of Africa. Madeira is part of Portugal and the Canary Islands are part of Spain.
This map shows the Canary Islands. The numbers in the circles represent our stops on the cruise ship MSC Musica. We flew in to Funchal, Madeira where we spent a day at a resort. We boarded a cruise ship and sailed to Las Palmas on the Island of Grand Canaria. You can follow the numbers to see where we went next.
Morocco is 60 miles from the island of Fuerteventura, one of the larger Canary Islands.

The best meal I had on the whole trip was at the Compostelana Plaza de España restaurant in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This happened to be the closest restaurant to the cruise ship terminal. I ordered beer, and the server didn't ask what kind. He brought me Cruzcampo Pilsen. It was decent. I had Seafood Risotto that was excellent. Ed
The windmills on the island of Fuerteventura are called Molino de Tefía. Some are still used for making grain or pumping water.
The Museo Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo (International Museum of Contemporary Art), also known as the San Jose Castle, is an old fort converted to an art museum. It was built to protect entry to the Bay of Arrecife, on the island of Lansarote.
